The Thelma Underwood Health Resort is a fat farm, plain and simple. But the inmates spend most of their time either trying to sneak food into the place or primping themselves to attract the new counselor. Lines fly fast and furious, especially during the exercise scene, as the ladies find not only their health getting better but also their dignity. Then when the investor's want to get some dirt on Thelma, the patients band together and come up with the most outrageous plan to save the place, up to and including a fake murder. This is an all too human comedy about what some people will do to lose weight and, at the same time, It recognizes their individual spirits and celebrates their zest for life.
